Andrew Pope's 30th | Link1 Link2 |
Day one was spent entirely at Mt Boyce with everyone having a ball on
these nicley protected 40-50m pitches.
Stu has kindly written about it (in his own indefatable style)... and
I have managed to grab some images from the video we took on the day. ...
Patty put up an excellent lead under the encouragement of Barry.
The shots here show her high on the Eirie (12) approaching the cave section. (I particularly liked the sun flare off Patty's helmet in this shot, not to mention the look of determination as she makes the clip. |

The Eirie is an absolute must climb. Starting mostly as a juggy slab, it gradually steepens and protection becomes harder to find. A single ring bolt provides relief below the tiny cave, inside which is a chain and rap station. | |

In the image on the right we see Andrew I. leading out from the tiny
cave.
(The large break imediatly below him). This is a great move with lots of 'feeling'. From the cave, you grab a enormouse undercling, say 'bye to your belayer, and simply step out with your butt hanging over 40m of space. The first thing you see is a bolt, right at face level. Clip that sucker, and the rest is a hugley satisfying jug haul up the arete to the top. |
|
In the close-up we see Andrew just after he's stepped out of the cave. He's got the bolt (in front of him), and now he's just going for it ! |
