Start at ACRON oval St Ives. There is off-street parking, toilets and water. From the car park ride through the scrub onto the Cascades track and follow this through the CASCADES to STONE PDE Davidson. Water bars and/or short DH diversions await your riding pleasure. Look out for WALKERS and other riders. The track is steep enough and wide enough to ecourage stupidity. Someone will surely get hurt here one day (probably me) !! Once past the CASCADES you get to pay back all the fun you just had. Several steep climbs await between you and Davidson. At Stone Pde, turn LEFT continue upwards gently and then LEFT again at the end. A short gentle climb ensues and then suddenly turns into a mamoth hill effort. Go through the little park at the top and emerge on ASHWOOD AVE. Variose routes may be taken here, but this map shows a LEFT turn from ASHWOOD onto HAKEA AVe. Follow HAKEA until you can turn LEFT into ELM. Down and up gets you to the end of RALSTON Ave and the entrance to the dirt once again. Riding out towards the end, keep an eye peeled for the short link to the END of the dirt road and the start of a short but cool singletrack loop. (You can peel off from here and single track all the way back down into the valley, but not in this description!). After enjoying a lap or two of the Single Track loop, head up the dirt road (back towards the trasmition tower) until the HEATH track appears heading down to the LEFT. Huge water bars, lots of speed (watch out for the gate! [and WLAKERS and other riders etc, it's probably me!]). The downward fun continues for seemingly way more time and distance than it should. Event though you are grinning from ear to ear, keep an eye out for the QUARRY Track. This turn-off is easy to miss and ride past, as you will be going fast and the turn-off is sudden, and crosses the creek down-and-up to your right. The QUARRY track is an ugly steep loose test piece, well known to reduce the lesser amongst us to tears. Reaching the top in good form and unscathed is an achivement. The Quarry track used to exit through the Quarry (no kidding!!). But for now, just turn LEFT before the track tops out. (ie first left you come to). Gentle undulations quickly bring you now to the back of the re-furbished waste recyling center and a good dirt road will bring you out onto Mona Vale Rd if you follow it too far. (look out for wallabies crossing here around dusk !). Instead of going to the end, turn LEFT at the old fire trail (about 50m before the end) and follow more undulations. Just as you start to really get going, look out for a really sharp RiGHT hand turn. (track comes in from behind you on the RIGHT). A STEEP cement ramp leads you to a fire trail behind the houses and thence up to the road. [If you don't head up the ramp, but continue along the fire trail, you pop out a couple of streets lower, through an access between some new houses. ] Assuming youe HAVE gone up the ramp and hence the road ... Turn LEFT and follow the road to BLACKBURN ST. Turn LEFT and follow BLACKBURN St to ACRON RD. Turn RIGHT and follow ACRON RD back to the start. And that's the Big Hills Route
